Personal, Social and Emotional Development

At Learning Corner Nursery, we aim to develop confident, independent, and resilient learners. Our bespoke curriculum, key texts, and tools like ‘Signs for Feelings and Behaviours’ and ‘Big Feelings’ help children understand and express their emotions appropriately. We emphasise empathy, positive relationships, and respect for others’ opinions.
We teach children to stay healthy, safe, and manage their personal needs independently. Our Nurture Room provides a calming space for interventions such as Pets as Therapy, Yoga, and Mindfulness, which support emotional regulation. We use Leuven Scales to measure children’s well-being and involvement.
We also implement the ‘5 Ways to Well-Being’ strategy to support the mental well-being of children, families, and staff.

Five Ways to Wellbeing – A Whole School Approach

Wellbeing encompasses physical, mental, emotional, and social health. It is closely linked to happiness and life satisfaction, reflecting how you feel about yourself and your life. Evidence suggests that there are five steps to enhance mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing, helping both children and adults feel more positive and get the most out of life.
